NEW YORK -- Efforts to develop new opportunities in hair care have prompted a number of suppliers to focus more attention on children. One notable initiative has come from Cosmair Inc.'s L'Oreal subsidiary, which has developed an entire product line aimed at preteens.
Although baby shampoos formulated to be extra gentle have long been staples of the category, products for older children, who tend to have thicker hair, are creating a new niche. Those items offer additional lathering agents for deeper, more thorough cleaning, while retaining the same type of tear-free ingredients and detangling conditioners found in baby shampoos.
