Vic: 86-year-old died after given wrong drug; coroner
A Victorian coroner has found that an 86-year-old woman died after a senior nurse at
her aged care centre gave her the wrong drug.
FREDA MARY CAMERON died in November 2000, nearly six weeks after she was given a diabetic
drug that caused her blood sugar level to plunge to a fatal level.
Coroner HEATHER SPOONER has found it's likely that registered nurse DANIELLE WRIGHT
mistakenly gave Mrs CAMERON diabetic medication at the Villa Maria Aged Care Centre in
Berwick.
A check of the pharmacy at the aged care facility revealed a card for another resident
who suffered from diabetes with Mrs CAMERON's chart.
