Summer's coming and if you're ready to hit the bricks, try somenew tricks or just have some kicks, point your vehicle out on Route66.
Historian and preservationist Jim Conkle will be out there infront of you. Beginning Tuesday, he will take a 66-day road trip onthe storied route to mark historic landmarks with new signage andcreate a renewed awareness of the highway John Steinbeck dubbed "TheMother Road."
Starting at the symbolic "end" of Route 66, the Santa Monica,Calif., Pier, Conkle will travel 2,448 miles through eight states toChicago.
Traveling in his decorated RV and pulling a trailer, he and otherRoute 66 enthusiasts will make more than 60 stops to post new Route66 "Roadside Attraction" signs that tell the story of these specialsites, treasured landmarks and vintage establishments.
The signs will serve as a new travel guide for future travelerswho want to know where to stop and take in the road's 77 years ofasphalt history.
A Web site outlining the caravan's stops launched last week, soyou can get your clicks on Route 66. It will chronicle the journeywith weekly updates and photos from the various sign-posting events.

Northwest Airlines has extended its worldwide spring and summerfare sale through Friday, giving consumers additional time to takeadvantage of savings on travel throughout North America and theCaribbean, and from the United States to Asia and Europe.
Sale fares are being offered in every one of the 215 cities servedby Northwest or Northwest Airlink. One-way fares start at just $34for domestic travel, $185 to Europe, and $239 to Asia.
The best deal out of Denver is a $393 one-way fare to Bangkok.

Concerned about the degree of "questionable information" on theInternet, the Michigan State University International Studies andPrograms has set up a database to help students going abroad gettheir facts straight. It offers such useful information as maps,exchange rates and current health issues.
The Web site is free and, with more than 8,000 internationalannotated resources, it might also be useful to students doing globalresearch, said Jay Rodman, special productions coordinator forInternational Studies and Programs.

Hilton Hotels has unveiled a program to combat discount-lodgingWeb sites, which have largely grabbed the initiative for room pricingfrom hotels.
Its uniform-pricing policy covers more than 2,100 hotels in NorthAmerica that carry Hilton's various brand names, including Hilton,Doubletree, and Embassy Suites.
Customers will find the same price for like rooms no matter whichcompany-authorized distribution channel they use to book their rooms.
Those channels include the travelweb and expedia Web sites, travelagents, call centers and at the hotels themselves.
