Vic; Four dead in Victorian car crashes

Four people have been killed in separate car crashes on Victorian roads today, drivingthe state's holiday road toll to 19.

Already Victoria has recorded the highest holiday road toll in the nation this Chrismas-NewYear season.

The most recent fatality involved a woman killed about 7.20pm (AEDT) when the car inwhich she was a passenger ran off the road and hit a tree in central Victoria.

Police say the single-car crash occurred on the Hume Freeway about 6km north of Violet Town.

The driver survived with only minor injuries.

In earlier accidents today, a 44-year-old woman from Venus Bay was killed near Korumburra,southeast of Melbourne.

Half an hour earlier a man in his 50s died when he lost control of his car and hita tree in Donvale, in Melbourne's east.

The deaths have brought the state's Christmas road toll to 19, after another man, aged38 died on a remote Gippsland track early this morning.

Today's deaths brought the state's annual toll to 396 compared to 444 at the same time last year.

Victoria's holiday toll has risen to 19, while the national toll stands at 49.
